John Goldsmith - Grocer and Druggist. Maggs records that the premises, which Goldsmith rents, are owned by James Jermyn of Reydon, the High Steward of Southwold. Goldsmith's business fails in April this year, and not for the first time... his previous business failed in 1827. He dies in 1842. (M)

1836
Mr White - Grocer, enjoys little better success and goes out of business himself two years later. (M)

1838
Henry Gayfer succeeds Mr White and continues for the next eight years. Maggs doesn't record the nature of his shop but, in 1846, he departs to run a 'general shop' at Higham on the Norfolk Broads and later emigrates to America. (M)

1846
Thomas R Strange - Baker, takes over the rental. The building has meanwhile changed ownership, from James Jermyn to Miss Lydia Wales. The business lasts just over a year. (M)

1874

1902
Frederick Jenkins - Photographer.(SN) . Frederick runs a thriving photography, photographic processing, framing and general souvenir business incorporating No 92 as well as 94 and 96. He is to become an historically significant figure for Southwold, being responsible for many of the images which have become an important source of insight into what life in Southwold was like in the early 20th century.

Frederick's granddaughter, Ann Thornton, recalls that the upstairs of No 94 was the family living quarters. Frederick married Maud on January 1 1901 and they have five children: Alicia Maud (known as Peggie), Thomas Blyford, Marjorie Beryl, Arnold Barrett and Frederick Howard.

Frederick Jenkins - Photographer (K1937, SRB1939). This year, the photographic business contracts as Frederick's son, Barrett, takes over one of the family's three premises (No 96)


1949
Frederick Jenkins - Photographer. The business downsizes further as the studio at No 92 is taken over by another photographer, Norman Parker.


 

1954
Frederick Jenkins - Photographer (SRB1954). Frederick dies this year. In fact the business has for some years been managed by his daughters, Alicia Maud and Marjorie.


1969
Miss Alicia Maud Jenkins (known as Peggie) and Marjorie Beryl Jenkins - Stationers (SRB1969). Frederick's two daughters now own the business at 94 - 96 and run it as an up-market stationery store. It retains the 'F Jenkins' name. (LM)


 

1971
Heather & Maurice Cooper - take over Nos 94 and 96 this year. The shop retains the 'F Jenkins' Name and specialises in stationery, high quality china and souvenir giftware. (LM)


 

1984
Heather Cooper - 'F Jenkins' . The business is sold this year on the retirement of Mrs Cooper.

1987
L & S Rexon - Gifts, cards, stationery, books, artist's materials. Also occupy No 96 next door. (SST1987, 1989)



 

1990
Colin and Jan Peck,
trading as 'Great Expectations' - High-class stationery commences trading this year, also occupying No 96 next door.(SSC1990).

1994
Jane Strachan and Brenda Ladd- trading as 'Special Occasions' - Flowers and gifts. The shop is owned by John Huggins of No 5 East Street.


 
 

2005

Closes in July this year.

Now a fashion boutique - initially with a Noa Noa franchise then trading under the Elly Botilda brand.and now as Jack Wills.
